Pakistan’s security agencies have told the National Security Committee, based on reviews and findings, that they have found no evidence of a conspiracy against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The NSC concluded that no foreign conspiracy had taken place, based on a review of communications and assessments received from security agencies.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the Cabinet National Security Committee. The telegram received from the Pakistani embassy in Washington was reviewed in the meeting. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, former ambassador Asad Majeed Khan briefed the committee on the context, contents and background of his telegram. After examining the content and communication, the NSC ratified the decisions of the last meeting of the NSC.
A Foreign Office spokesman said that Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan briefed the National Security Committee on the context and content of the cipher telegram and briefed the huddle on his professional review.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan had alleged US conspiracy before the overthrow of his government and called the no-confidence motion a US conspiracy and alleged opposition leaders were part of it. He made all sorts of offers to stop it but after the no-confidence motion was successful, Imran Khan termed it a conspiracy to overthrow the government but later changed his statements.
Minister of State for External Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar has admitted that harsh language was used in the letter of the Pakistani ambassador and that is why the previous government decided to demarche but if there was a conspiracy, the government would take strict action. Pakistan’s reputation has been tarnished by the use of the matter for political gain.
Diplomatic circles say that the ambassador in any country who sees, hears and understands, sends it to the country concerned and Asad Majeed did the same. It has also raised eyebrows among friends and allies. The present government faces a difficult challenge to improve relations with the United States at the external level as well as at home and the government needs to take immediate steps to eliminate the effects of this fake conspiracy statement so that Pakistan doesn’t become isolated in the world.
