LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab on Saturday suspended DSO and SHO of Nankana Sahib Police station after a mob attacked the Warburton police station and allegedly killed a person detained in there.

According to reports from social as well as national mainstream media, a man was arrested on charges of desecrating Quran during the course of a domestic dispute with his wife. Reports said that the man had recently returned from a two-year prison sentence, he had previously been accused him of practicing black magic on his wife’s behest.
Soon after the incident, he was picked up by police and put behind bars.
Reports said that the mob gathered outside the police station and started chanting slogans. However, things soon got out of hand and the mob attacked the police station. Videos of the incident circulating on social media showed school children in the mob as well.
The staff inside the police station, including the SHO, had to flee for their lives. The mob also descended on the police station’s property, destroying computers and furniture.
The mob then dragged out a person locked up in the police station and allegedly beat him to death.
The police statement said the IG has suspended Nankana Sahib Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Nawaz Waraq and Warburton Station House Officer Feroz Bhatti.
The IG further directed the Internal Accountability Branch Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Muhammad Amin Bukhari and Special Branch DIG Raja Faisal to reach the incident location and submit an inquiry report.
