ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly session has been adjourned by the deputy speaker till April 3 at 11:30 AM as the opposition demanded protest on the no-confidence motion.
During the session, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri said no one is serious about the question hour session and ultimately adjourned session till Sunday April 3 at 11:30 AM due to the non-serious attitude of the lawmakers during the question hour.
The opposition lawmakers kept demanding the deputy speaker for conducting the voting on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. PML-N’s Marriyum Aurangzeb urged the deputy speaker to immediately announce the commencement of the voting on the no-confidence motion.
The lawmakers of the opposition benches stood at their seats and protested against the deputy speaker’s decision to defer the session without voting. Some opposition lawmakers surrounded the speaker’s dias and raised slogans against the government.
At the beginning of the session, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Babar Awan moved a motion to adjourn the session so the assembly hall could be used for the Parliamentary Committee on National Security’s meeting. The motion was rejected after voting.
Subsequently, the deputy speaker opened the floor for questions. The opposition MNAs, however, continued to insist that the speaker call for a vote on the no-confidence motion today amid chants of “go Imran go”. Terming the opposition’s attitude “non-serious”, Suri adjourned the session till Sunday when the vote on the no-confidence motion is expected to take place. He also announced that the meeting of the parliamentary committee would be held in Committee Room No 2.
The resolution against the prime minister was tabled by the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on March 28 and was approved for debate the very same day. The voting on the no-trust motion is expected to be held on April 3.
