A horrific incident of mob violence in Nawada district of India’s Bihar state has shaken the region, where 35-year-old trader Mohammad Atar Hussain, who earned his livelihood by selling clothes from village to village, was brutally assaulted and killed.
According to reports, following the extremist attack, Mohammad Atar Hussain remained in critical condition for six days, struggling between life and death, before succumbing to his injuries.
Reports state that extremist Hindu assailants first asked the victim his name and then stripped him to verify his religious identity.
He was subsequently tied up and subjected to severe torture. His fingers were broken with bricks, and his nails were forcibly pulled out during the brutal assault.
On the complaint of the victim’s wife, a case has been registered against 10 named and 15 unidentified suspects. Police have arrested four accused, including Sonu, Ranjan, and Shri Kumar.
The FIR also names Satya Narayan, Mantu Yadav, Satish, Sikandar Yadav, Ram Swaroop Yadav, Vipal Kumar, Sachin Kumar, and Sogan Yadav. Multiple police teams have been formed to arrest the remaining accused.
Reacting to the tragic incident, Advocate Adil Hussain, spokesperson for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), demanded immediate and strict action against all individuals involved in the mob lynching.
He urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and the Home Department to ensure swift justice. Advocate Adil Hussain further demanded adequate financial compensation for the bereaved family, government employment for one family member, and fast-track judicial proceedings to ensure accountability and prevent such horrific incidents in the future.
