PESHAWAR: A nine-member mountaineering team from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has successfully scaled the 6,050-meter-high Thuluzom peak, marking a historic achievement for the province’s climbing community.

After an eight-day expedition beginning on July 9, the team reached the summit on July 17, hoisting Pakistan’s national flag atop the challenging Hindu Kush summit.

Thuluzom is widely regarded as one of the most difficult and least climbed peaks in the Hindu Kush mountain range, and the team’s successful ascent underlined their preparation, endurance, and technical skill.

According to expedition details, the climbers navigated some of the route’s harshest sections, crossing dangerous glaciers and crevasses while traversing routes through the Kumrat and Chitral regions.

The team advanced through steep and demanding terrain by installing ice screws on the most challenging stretches—an approach that helped them maintain stability on the peak’s technical passages.

The final push to the summit took approximately eight hours of continuous climbing, as the mountaineers overcame sustained altitude and difficult conditions before reaching the top.

Climbers from multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—including Swat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bisham, and Chitral—took part in the expedition.

The ascent featured climbers Rohullah, Umar Khan, Intikhab Khan, Noman Sami, Izzatullah Shah, Saeed Akhtar, Naeem Khan, Fawad Khan, and Rawaz Ali. Their coordinated effort culminated in the summit flag-raising on Thuluzom, a peak previously climbed internationally.

Thuluzom was first climbed by Australian mountaineers in 1971, and later by an Italian team in 2019—making the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa expedition a significant milestone in the mountain’s climbing history.
