PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced its first digital driving licence service, enabling motorists to carry a legally valid electronic version of their licence on their mobile phones.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Peshawar Dr Zahid Ullah, the facility has been launched through the “Rabta” mobile application.
Citizens can obtain their digital driving licence within seconds by entering their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number and driving licence number.
The CTO said motorists will no longer be required to carry a physical driving licence at all times, as the digital version available on the Rabta app will be accepted during routine traffic inspections.
Officials said the initiative is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Police’s digital governance strategy, which aims to provide citizens with faster, more efficient, and user-friendly public services.
The traffic police had previously introduced an online driving licence verification service for citizens travelling abroad, allowing overseas authorities to verify licences for visa-related purposes. Officials said thousands of applicants have already benefited from the service.
Dr Zahid Ullah said the adoption of digital technology would reduce unnecessary visits to government offices, minimise paperwork, and save citizens valuable time.
He added that additional public services would gradually be shifted to digital platforms to ensure greater transparency, convenience, and accessibility.
