A double-decker bus service has been inaugurated in Karachi.  The double-decker bus route spans 22 kilometers, with fares ranging from Rs 80 to Rs 120.  The bus service will operate from Malir to Shahrah-e-Faisal, according to Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced the launch of a double-decker bus service as a special New Year’s gift for Karachi’s residents.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Memon explained that the service is currently in its trial phase and will initially operate on a limited scale. For the time being, these buses will run along Sharea Faisal, specifically connecting the route between Malir and Tower.

Regarding travel costs, the minister confirmed that the fares for the double-decker service would be identical to those of the existing People’s Bus Service. He further noted that he has discussed the project’s expansion with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, with plans to procure more double-decker buses and broaden the service area in the near future.

Memon said that double-decker buses help save road space and can play an important role in easing traffic congestion in the city.

He also announced that passengers will now be able to travel on both the Orange Line and Green Line BRT services using a single card. He said this makes Karachi Pakistan’s “first” BRT system to operate with one unified card across multiple lines.

The minister said that the provincial government is committed to providing transport facilities to citizens, adding that all these initiatives aim to provide greater convenience to the public.

The transport minister conceded that several issues had emerged that delayed the completion of the Red Line BRT project,  saying that the chief minister had “resolved” those problems, and work on the project is now expedited.
