Muhajir Culture Day is an annual ethnic and cultural festival celebrated on December 24. It is primarily observed by the Muhajir community, descendants of Muslims who migrated from various regions of India to Pakistan after the partition in 1947 to honor their unique heritage, language, and contributions to Pakistan.

As of December 24, 2025, celebrations are actively taking place across Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) is hosting major celebrations at Jinnah Square, Malir.

Youth groups, such as Naujawanan-i-Muhajir, traditionally hold large motorbike and car rallies starting from areas like Karimabad and culminating at the Mazar-e-Quaid (the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah).

The day serves as a platform to display the distinct cultural identity of the Urdu-speaking community.

Participants typically wear traditional clothing, with a specific focus on the kurta pajama and waistcoats as symbols of their heritage.

Since Urdu literature is central to Muhajir identity, the celebrations often include Mushairas (poetry recitals) and literary discussions.

Traditional Mughlai and North Indian-influenced dishes, such as biryani, nihari, and various desserts, are often showcased during festivals and family gatherings.

So excited for Muhajir Culture Day!

Can’t wait to celebrate an identity that celebrates our beautiful history, lineage, and traditions.

Now it’s time for us to honour their traditions & dominate in education once again.

The day gained significant public prominence around 2020–2021 as a grassroots movement by youth organizations to celebrate Muhajir identity.

It aims to promote national harmony by recognizing the Muhajir community as one of the many vibrant “flowers” in Pakistan’s cultural bouquet.

It also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the community’s ancestors during the 1947 migration.
