KARACHI: Iqra University and the Sri Lanka-China Business Council (SCBC) have signed an MoU to establish campuses in Balochistan and provide students with Chinese language training. The agreement sees Iqra University offer students the chance to obtain a Mandarin qualification and looks to establish campuses on the coast of Balochistan.
SCBC President, Mr Herbi Silva, and Iqra’s Chairman and Founding Chancellor, Mr Hunaid Lakhani, attended the MoU Signing Ceremony held in Iqra University EDC Campus. As per the memorandum, both parties will collaborate in offering a Mandarin language training program. The MOU also sets out the parameters for working closely with SCBC to establish a strong Balochistan presence.
Mr Hunaid Lakhani said that the collaboration is a stepping stone for Iqra to grow its footprint in Pakistan’s largest province.
“I’d like to thank Mr Herbi for vising Iqra University Karachi and Islamabad campuses. Now we are collaborating in setting up campuses in the Baluchistan area, especially the coastal areas of Baluchistan. We are introducing maritime studies programs in collaboration with the Ocean University of China, which is one of China’s best public sector universities in China.” said Mr Lakhanii.
Herbi Silva, SCCBC President, stated that this collaboration aims to achieve greater cultural and language cooperation between Pakistan and China.
“I’m very thankful to Iqra University and its leaders. This is an excellent opportunity to extend our culture and our languages. Chinese studies are critical now because we need people-to-people exchanges and conduct a lot of business with China. Better language skills are essential for this. I wish you all the best for this venture and I think we can exchange a lot of business and trading and a lot of cultural programs with this opportunity”.
The Sri Lanka-China Business Council was established on April 26, 2001, to promote trade between these two countries by increasing investment and tourism opportunities for both parties involved in each transaction.
