During September 2025, the share of electricity generation through net metering in Pakistan’s total national output increased significantly by 57 basis points.

According to new data, the use of solar panels at residential and commercial levels continues to rise, reducing dependence on the national grid. This data was revealed in a report issued by NEPRA and analyzed by Arif Habib Limited.

In September, net metering units recorded a month-on-month increase of 28.1 percent, which not only reflects better solar generation due to favorable weather conditions but also highlights the continuous expansion of installed solar system capacity across the country.

Furthermore, total electricity generation saw a year-on-year increase of 0.8 percent, indicating that due to rising tariffs and expensive bills, consumers are rapidly shifting toward alternative energy sources, and the trend of self-generated electricity is growing.
