Investors reacted negatively to the central bank’s decision to keep the interest rate unchanged on Monday, as the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) edged lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index dropping nearly 400 points.

At close, the benchmark index settled at 188,202.85, down 384.81 points or 0.2%.

Selling interest emerged in key sectors, particularly banking, as well as among automobile assemblers and fertilizer companies.

On Monday, the PSX experienced notable volatility as the benchmark index pulled back from record levels, with investors engaging in profit-taking ahead of the upcoming MPC meeting.

The KSE-100 Index fell 579.17 points, or 0.31%, to close at 188,587.66.

Meanwhile, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed presented an optimistic outlook for the economy, revising the GDP growth forecast to 3.75–4.75% for FY26. He also projected that the State Bank’s foreign exchange reserves could reach a record USD 20.2 billion by the end of December 2026.
