India-Pakistan row

Editorial by Editorial
June 25, 2020
A new diplomatic row has erupted between Indian and Pakistan. Amid the deteriorating conditions, India has now called on Pakistan to reduce its staff at the New Delhi embassy by half. Pakistan has rejected the decision and has asked India to take reciprocal steps.
The Indian envoy was summoned to the Foreign Office to inform about the reduction in diplomatic staff and a message was conveyed to implement the decision within seven days.  Pakistan has categorically rejected India’s allegation of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Foreign Office Spokesperson has said that India is making excuses to defame Pakistan to cover up the ongoing state-sponsored terrorism in occupied Kashmir and the illegal activities of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan. India’s accusations are unfounded and fabricated.
Indian ended the special status of Kashmir in August 2019 and instead of dealing with the situation regarding minorities in the country, India is trying to divert the issue by escalating tensions with Pakistan.  India also has worsened relations with China and Nepal. Tensions are rising in the region following the recent killing of Indian soldiers by Chinese troops in a border clash.
Instead of resolving the Kashmir issue and overcoming the insurgency over the Citizenship Act, the Indian government is devoting all its energies to escalating border tensions.
The complaints of harassment of Pakistani diplomatic staff in India have increased tremendously. Recently, staff of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi were also detained in violation of all diplomatic norms. The atmosphere of peace in the region is deteriorating after the annexation of occupied territories and tensions with China and Nepal.
India is losing its place in the region due to its expansionist aspirations and controversial initiatives. After constant ceasefire violations, India has started escalating tensions at the diplomatic level with Pakistan.
India is moving towards the use of force to increase its influence in the region. The harassment and deportation of diplomatic staff reflect India’s nefarious intentions so the current tension between Pakistan and India could lead to a very difficult situation at any time.
