ISLAMABAD: The import of mobile phones witnessed a rise of 43.6 percent during the first four months of the current financial year (FY21) as compared to the same period of 2019.
According to the latest data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $556.783 million in July-Oct FY21 as compared to the imports of $387.741 million in July-Oct FY20.
Although, mobile phone imports diminish by 46.15pc to $63.890 million on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in October 2020, as compared to imports of $118.653 million in Oct 2019, as per the data.
Likewise, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the import of mobile phones decreased 65.75pc in Oct 2020, as compared to the imports of $186.530 million in Sept 2020.
On June 18, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) had said the import of mobile phones in Pakistan observed an increase of 63.17 percent during the eleven months of the fiscal year (2019-20).
The country imported mobile phones worth $1138.641 million from July to May 2019-20 compared to the imports of $697.813 million from July to May 2018 to 2019, representing a growth of 63.17 percent.
On a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, the import of mobile phones witnessed an increase of 68.76 percent in May 2020, compared to the imports of mobile phones in the same month in 2019.
