A trial court reserved its verdict in the illegal nikkah case against Imran Khan and Bushra Begum on Friday night. The decision will be announced today at 1 pm.
Civil Judge Qudratullah reserved the verdict after a long hearing in Adiala Jail on Friday. During the hearing, Khan and Bushra’s statements were recorded under section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The legal proceedings included the completion of the defense’s cross-examination of four key witnesses, namely Khawar Manka, Awn Chaudhry, Mufti Saeed, and Muhammad Latif. During the hearing, Bushra Begum vehemently contested claims regarding the date of her divorce, asserting that it occurred in April 2017. Furthermore, she refuted allegations of a second nikkah, characterizing the event as a mere prayer gathering.
Tensions have flared during previous hearings, notably in a heated exchange between Khan and Khawar Manka, who accused the Prime Minister of destroying his house. Notably, Khan and Bushra face accusations of tying the knot before the completion of the iddat period.
It’s worth mentioning that both individuals have already been handed prison sentences in separate cases – Khan receiving 10 years in the cypher case and 14 years in the Toshakhana case, while Bushra was sentenced to 14 years in the second case. The ongoing legal saga continues to captivate public attention as the nation awaits the court’s final decision.
