Court orders protection for free-will marriage couple

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court had directed deputy Commissioner Islamabad and police officials to provide protection fora free-will marriage couple, who are allegedly facing life threats from their parents.
Earlier, a woman approached the court, submitting that she had contracted free-will marriage however, her family did not accept it.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Athar Minallah of the Islamabad High Court was informed that the petitioner, Malaika Fatima who had contracted a free free-will marriage with a man Muqadas Yaseen on 10-01-2020.
However, the couple’s families are trying to force for divorce, the lawyer Khawar Amir Bukhari told the court.
Bukhari also informed during an attempted to kill, Malaika Fatima received more than 30 stitches on her head. “On the orders of a regional ‘jirga’ the petitioner’s husband hostage in Lodhran”, he told the court.
The court was informed that the father of the girl had got the fake case registered against the petitioner’s husband for kidnapping his daughter.
The girl requested the court to order their protection and quash the kidnapping case registered against her husband at a local police station.
Fatima informed the judge that she was neither kidnapped nor she was forced to marry Yaseen, adding that she had married her will. The court directed police officials to provide protection to the couple and not to take any coercive action against Yaseen.
The Islamabad High Court has summoned the IG Islamabad and IG Punjab on the issue of abduction, while, the court directed the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to provide shelter and medical treatment to the victim.
