RAWALPINDI: A woman was allegedly tortured and killed at her home in the Lal Kurti area, police said, adding that her husband and a domestic worker had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The case was registered at the Civil Lines police station on the complaint of the deceased’s brother. Police said the body of Hina was recovered from the bathroom of the house.
According to the first information report, Hina’s hands were tied behind her back, while a cloth had been placed over her face and a wire was tied around her neck. Blood and foam were reportedly visible around her mouth.
Police said they were investigating whether the victim had been given a poisonous substance before her death. The family alleged that the suspects attempted to make the incident appear to be a suicide.
The woman’s husband, Faisal Asghar, and a domestic worker identified as Zeeshan have been arrested, according to police. The victim’s family has also demanded the arrest and investigation of her father-in-law, identified in the complaint and family statements as retired Colonel Asghar Fayyaz or Asghar Ali.
Brother alleges domestic violence
In his statement, Hina’s brother said he received a telephone call from his sister’s father-in-law and reached the house, where he found her body lying in the bathroom.
He alleged that Hina had been tortured to death by her husband, father-in-law and the domestic worker. He also claimed that her husband had subjected her to violence and torture before the incident.
According to the family, Hina had married Faisal about nine months ago. They further alleged that it was Faisal’s second marriage and that his first wife had divorced him over alleged domestic violence and abuse. These claims have not yet been independently verified.
Family, friends seek justice on social media
Before the latest police updates, Hina’s relatives and friends had appealed for help and justice on social media.
In a post shared on Aug 21, a relative, Shahram Azhar, alleged that Hina had been brutally murdered by her husband and in-laws and claimed that her husband was still at large and had not been arrested.
The post appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for intervention and used the hashtag JusticeForHinaJaved.
A separate statement issued by Hina’s family described her as a daughter, sister, friend and young mother with “plans, ambitions, and a future she deserved to live”.
The family urged the Punjab police and relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation, collect forensic evidence, examine witnesses and ensure that no person involved in the alleged crime—or in concealing it—escaped accountability.
The family also expressed concern over the alleged involvement of Hina’s father-in-law and called for his immediate custody and investigation. It said it would continue pursuing legal action until all those responsible were held accountable.
