Following torrential rain in Karachi, an unexpected cold wave has swept over the port city, driven by chilly winds from Quetta.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi experienced a drop in temperature on Sunday, with the current reading recorded at 14°C, indicating an increase in the intensity of the cold.
As per the Met department, the unseasonal cold in Karachi is expected to be short-lived, as winds from Quetta are forecasted to continue blowing for the next few days, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Presently, the winds are blowing from the northwest at a speed of 16 kilometers per hour, as reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office forecasts that the weather in the port city will remain dry, cold, and cloudy for the next 24 hours, with the minimum temperature recorded at 13°C. The Met department also notes that the humidity in the air is at 28%, with a predicted maximum temperature ranging between 24 to 26°C.
Weather experts on Saturday asserted that Karachi is unlikely to experience further rain as the westerly waves have moved away. They anticipate clear and dry skies with cold nights ahead.
The recent heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Friday in Karachi were succeeded by the onset of a cold wave. Various areas in the city, including II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Sarjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Manghopir, Northern Bypass, and Sohrab Goth Town, received substantial rainfall.
