After the latest round of negotiations between Israel and Hamas ended without a breakthrough, Qatar’s chief mediator has expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in securing a Gaza ceasefire. Meanwhile, new developments have come to light.
According to Al Arabiya, citing Palestinian sources, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is expected to deliver a message from Hamas during his upcoming meeting with Steve Wietkopf, the U.S. envoy to the Middle East appointed by former President Donald Trump.
Sources claim that Hamas has relayed messages to Qatar confirming its willingness to step down from governing the Gaza Strip as part of a broader ceasefire deal.
The militant group has reportedly expressed readiness to release all captives as part of a long-term truce and a permanent end to hostilities with Israel.
The sources added that the Qatari Prime Minister is keen to restart indirect negotiations between the two sides regarding the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, particularly the post-conflict governance and reconstruction of Gaza.
These revelations come shortly after Qatar’s chief negotiator, Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, voiced concern over the “slow pace” of the negotiation process, describing it as disappointing.
Meanwhile, Israeli military operations continue in the Gaza Strip, with humanitarian conditions deteriorating rapidly due to Israel’s blockade of food and medical supply convoys, leading to severe shortages across the enclave.
