The much-anticipated third installment of the Mardaani franchise is officially in the works, with Rani Mukerji set to return as the fearless Shivani Shivaji Roy, as reported by Indian media on Monday.
As per an Indian media report, the makers have officially locked in the release date, Mardaani 3 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.

To break the news, production house Yash Raj Films shared a powerful still from the film on Instagram with the caption: “The countdown begins for #Mardaani3! On Holi, good will fight evil as Shivani Shivaji Roy returns to the big screen on February 27, 2026.”
Prior to this announcement, YRF had also unveiled a teaser poster featuring the title, along with the names of director Abhiraj Minawala and producer Aditya Chopra. The accompanying message read, “The wait is over! Rani Mukerji is back as the fierce Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3. In cinemas 2026.”
Speaking about the film, Rani Mukerji shared her excitement: “I’m thrilled to announce that we are starting the shooting of ‘Mardaani 3‘ in April 2025. I’m proud to step into the shoes of this fiery cop once again as a tribute to the brave, selfless officers who work relentlessly to protect us.” She also described the upcoming film as “dark, deadly, and brutal.”

The Mardaani journey began in 2014, directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar. The film starred Rani Mukerji alongside Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jisshu Sengupta, and Anant Vidhaat Sharma. It earned critical acclaim, bagging awards like Best Sound Design at the Filmfare Awards and Best Villain for Tahir Raj Bhasin at the Screen Awards.
The sequel, Mardaani 2, released in 2019, was written and directed by Gopi Puthran. It followed Shivani’s intense pursuit of a serial offender, with Vishal Jethwa, Shruti Bapna, and Rajesh Sharma in key roles.
