Los Angeles: The renowned game show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ is gearing up for its much-anticipated return with a brand new season. ABC Network has officially given the green light for the upcoming season, slated to kick off on July 10, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Jimmy Kimmel is set to reprise his role as the host, marking the show’s 25th anniversary. In this season, the format will feature pairs of celebrities vying to win substantial sums of money, up to $1 million, for charities close to their hearts.
Originally adapted from a British game show and hosted by Regis Philbin, ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ became a cultural sensation upon its debut on ABC. It garnered immense viewership, with one episode in May 2000 peaking at 35.9 million viewers, and aired up to five nights a week during its initial run.
Meanwhile, the Indian counterpart inspired by ‘Who Wants to Be A Millionaire’, hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, is also set to make its return for the 16th season this year. Bachchan has already commenced filming for the show, as confirmed in his blog post, sharing glimpses from the set and detailing the demanding schedule, which includes working from 9 to 5 without a traditional break, and even having lunch in his car.
