KARACHI: President FPCCI Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo represented Pakistan and virtually addressed the Board Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Business Council held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The meeting was attended by the Presidents/Chairmen of all members countries including India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, China, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
The President FPCCI, who is also Chairman SCO Business Council Pakistan, raised the issues of economic, trade, and investment liberalisation within the powerful SCO bloc. He also highlighted the economic and commercial potential of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and TAPI gas pipeline project.
FPCCI Chief appreciated the bilateral, regional, and multilateral linkages and connectivity being developed by SCO Business Council to tap the true potential of regional trade and which various economic blocs have achieved over the past few decades.
He said SCO is all geared up to maximise the gains. He also appreciated the organiser for arranging the multilateral high-profile event and bringing eight countries of the economic bloc together. Veteran business leader and Convener International Forums FPCCI, Mr Amjad Rafi, appreciated the efforts of Tajikistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
An international conference was held on the sidelines on Cooperation & Exchange of Experiences between the Leading Cities/Capitals of SCO under Smart City. FPCCI’s Director FS&R Mr Shahid Ahmed Khan attended an event and gave a presentation on Smart City of Pakistan (Lahore and Islamabad) which have developed eco-friendly ventures.
The round table was centered on supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in SCO, during which Mr Zubair Hyder Sheikh, President & CEO Lumina Consulting Services, gave a presentation on supporting and development of MSMEs.
All meetings and conferences within the program were centered on tangible economic and social cooperation between the member countries of SCO. During the round table, it was suggested that MSMEs in member countries may be promoted through support mechanisms in access to finance, regulatory protections, and cooperation among the member countries as MSMEs are the real engine of growth coupled with employment generation.
The FPCCI said it is looking forward to enhanced trade and investment within SCO and forging a formidable economic alliance for mutual prosperity and development of the member nations.
