ISLAMABAD: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed has demanded foolproof security from the government and wrote a letter to the Interior Ministry.
Gulzar Ahmed had written a letter to the Interior Ministry demanding foolproof security for him and his family. The letter was sent on January 27 through the Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court.
In the petition, the former chief justice said that he had ruled on a number of high-profile cases including terrorism, extrajudicial killings, minority rights, encroachments, and others due to which he and his family faced security concerns. In his letter, former Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed sought security from Rangers for residence and travel.
It may be recalled that former Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed became an advocate of the Supreme Court in 2001 after enrollment as an advocate in 1988. He was elected Honorary Secretary of Sindh High Court Bar Association for 1999-2000.
During the rule of Pervez Musharraf, on August 27, 2002, he was appointed as a judge of the Sindh High Court, while on November 16, 2011, he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad served as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan from November 20 to 28, 2018, and from May 13 to 17, 2019. He was sworn in as Chief Justice on December 21, 2019, and resigned on February 1, 2022.
