Congratulations abound to Brigadier Helen Mary Roberts as she became the first Christian woman officer to be promoted to the rank of brigadier in the Pakistan Army.
Helen Mary Roberts was promoted to the brigadier rank in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps.
It is for the first time in the 76-year history of the Pakistan Army that a lady officer belonging to a minority community has been promoted to the one-star rank of brigadier.
There is a flood of good wishes and congratulations for the lady officer on social media.
There are many members of the Christian community serving in the Pakistan Army on different posts. Last year at an event, Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir commended the Christian community’s contributions to Pakistan’s national development and praised their “outstanding” role in defending the motherland.
While expressing deep respect for the Christian community, the army chief stressed the need to promote greater interfaith harmony in society to “follow Quaid’s true vision of a united and progressive Pakistan”.
