A tragic incident in Mirpur Khas has shaken the medical community, where a 21-year-old third-year medical student allegedly took her own life after facing harassment from teachers and fellow students.
The shocking case has prompted immediate action from the Sindh Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, who has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice.
According to details, the student, Fahmida, was reportedly facing harassment from teachers and male students. A fake Instagram ID was also created in her name to malign her character. Fahmida was enrolled in a private medical college and ended her life by shooting herself at home.
Her sister, Mehak Laghari, alleged that Fahmida had told her a few days earlier that if anything happened to her, her case should be pursued. Fahmida had confided that teachers and a group of boys had done something to her, but she struggled to express it fully, and Mehak admitted she remained unaware.
A post-mortem examination has been conducted at the hospital, and Fahmida’s mobile phone has been taken into custody.
The chancellor of the medical college and university said that the student’s parents had previously lodged complaints but declined to submit them in writing. Nevertheless, the pharmacy lecturer accused in the matter has been suspended.
IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho directed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Mirpur Khas to submit a detailed investigation report and ensure transparent inquiries from all angles. He also instructed that the affected family be provided protection and full legal assistance.
