ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to announce a cabinet reshuffle soon, potentially replacing some ministers and picking up some new faces, sources disclosed on Wednesday.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again decided to change the portfolios of federal ministers in the cabinet; there is a strong possibility that the portfolio of federal minister Hamad Azhar will be changed, who currently served as Minister for Energy.
He was given the portfolio of energy after the portfolio of finance minister was taken from Hamad Azhar, but now sources said that his portfolio will be taken back from Hamad Azhar and given another ministry.
In another shuffle recently in the federal cabinet, Hammad Azhar had been removed from the office of finance minister less than a month after his appointment and replaced by ex-PPP minister Shaukat Fayyaz Ahmed Tarin who was also given the additional portfolio of revenue.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is reportedly not happy with some key ministers’ performance and has already conveyed that only those would stay in the cabinet who can deliver.
Former energy minister Omar Ayub had been made the minister for economic affairs. Former information minister Shibli Faraz, who was replaced by Fawad Chaudhry, had been made the minister for science and technology — the office previously headed by Chaudhry.
Khusro Bakhtiar had been made the minister for industries and production in place of Azhar. Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had removed then finance minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and given the portfolio to Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar as an additional charge.
