Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman have announced the formation of a new platform under the banner of “Ittehad-e-Ummat” (Unity of the Ummah).
Both leaders also declared a massive public rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on April 27 in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Lahore, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that a new platform is being created in the name of unity. He added that an awareness campaign will be launched across the country regarding the situation in Palestine, stressing that any minor pro-Israel lobbying present in the country holds no significance.
He stated that the situation in Palestine is a matter of grief for the entire Muslim Ummah and announced a large demonstration at Minar-e-Pakistan on April 27.
Maulana Fazl said that religious parties will participate in the Lahore gathering under the banner of Majlis Ittehad-e-Ummat.
He said that the Muslim world must have a clear stance on Palestine and criticized Muslim rulers for their negligence.
He said, “Jihad is a sacred word and must be honored. Today, the Muslim world is divided geographically, but even financial or political support is part of the same jihad.”
He also addressed issues of provincial autonomy, reiterating JUI-F’s stance that every province has ownership over its resources. He criticized the lack of consensus on key national issues, which, according to him, made projects like the Kalabagh Dam controversial.
The JUI-F has rejected the recent Mines and Minerals Bill, he added.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said his party rejected the 26th constitutional amendment and maintained its independent position on the matter.
He added that both parties will continue to struggle on various issues from their respective platforms.
