KARACHI: A family of a man, who died in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth police custody in mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, has demanded justice from high authorities.
The family claimed that the man, Rehman Khan was tortured to death by the police during his physical remand, demanding a transparent inquiry and punishment for the culprits responsible for the death of their beloved.
The family alleged that the court had issued jail custody orders to the accused but the investigating officer demanded Rs 100,000 to send him to jail.
“We were kept in the dark for a long time after Rehmat’s death. There are signs of torture on Rehmat’s body,” the family said. The man who mysteriously died in police custody was the father of six children.
“A post-mortem examination report should be conducted to ascertain the actual causes of the death,” the family demanded. The family has also demanded that a terror case be registered against suspects involved in the incident.
Police said Rehman Khan, son of Painda Khan, was arrested on November 7 over a fraud case. DSP Chaudhry Sohail Faiz denied the allegations made by the family and said the man apparently died of cardiac arrest.
