ISLAMABAD: Shortly after getting rejected Supreme Court’s verdict of holding elections for Punjab Assembly by way of National Assembly resolution, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged upon all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and work together to overcome the country’s challenges.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of lawyers complex in Islamabad High Court on Thursday, Shehbaz Sharif said no political party can avoid participating in the elections, as doing so would bury their politics.
Referring to recent Supreme Court decision on the upcoming Punjab elections, the PM said if the demand of the full court was met, no one would disagree with the decision. He emphasized the importance of all stakeholders working together to secure the future of generations, and requested the court to review its decision.

He said the government hold the court in high regard. He mentioned that the bench initially consisted of nine members, but ultimately, only three members announced the judgment, adding that a conversation between four and three members was taking place.
PM Shehbaz Sharif praised the lawyer community for their sacrifices and contributions to restoring the judiciary in the country.
Earlier, speaking on this occasion, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that conducting elections solely to satisfy the ego and stubbornness of an individual [Imran Khan] would have adverse effects on the upcoming general elections.
He claimed that the ruling party was not against the idea of holding elections but emphasized that the country had suffered greatly in the past due to controversial elections. Minister Sanaullah cited the examples of the 1971 and 1977 elections, which were both controversial and resulted in significant harm to the nation. The former caused the country to disintegrate, while the latter paved the way for terrorism.
Rana Sanaullah also announced that the government will spend 1.8 billion rupees to facilitate the lawyer community by building a complex that includes chambers, a library, waiting lounge, dispensary, sports, and other facilities for over 3500 lawyers.
The Law Minister, Azam Nazeer Tarar, stated that the coalition government is committed to being lawyer-friendly and prioritizes the welfare of lawyers.
