A significant development has emerged in the investigation into the death of Mir Raza Ali, as the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh has successfully unlocked his Apple Watch and retrieved important data.
Raza — an IBA graduate — returned home from his shop on the night of July 28 before leaving again, telling his family he would be back within 10 minutes. Police later recovered his body from bushes in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
According to police, the Apple Watch has yielded information relating to financial transactions and other potentially significant data that could assist investigators in the case.
East Police had earlier taken the deceased’s mobile phone and Apple Watch into custody and sent both devices to the CTD’s specialised technical centre for forensic examination.
Officials said that some data had been deleted from both devices. However, investigators were able to successfully unlock the Apple Watch.
The iPhone’s passcode has not yet been cracked, while the investigation team is conducting a forensic analysis of the data recovered from the smartwatch.
Police are expected to hold a press conference within the next 48 hours to share further developments in the investigation.
