KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has penned down a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan expressing deep concern over the incessant and prolonged gas outages across the province of Sindh, which according to him is the largest contributor to nationwide gas production.
In a Tweet, Sindh Government Spokesperson Murtaza Wahab said, “As per Article 158 of Constitution, requirements of people of Sindh must take precedence being 68% producer of natural gas in Pakistan. PM must ensure that the Constitution is followed.”
According to the letter, the Chief Minister told the prime minister that due to the shortage of gas, the domestic, as well as commercial consumers, were facing a lot of difficulties in the province of Sindh.
“This is gravely impacting the province’s economy, industries and homes,” the chief minister said and added that the gas suspension to the province of Sindh was a violation of Article 158 of the Constitution.
The Chief Minister further wrote in his letter that the production of gas from Sindh is between 2500-2600 mmcfd and against that Sui Southern Gas Co was supplying less than 900-1000 mmcfd to Sindh.
The Sindh chief minister requested the prime minister to indulge in the matter and direct concerned Ministry for regular supply of gas to the Sindh Province as per their requirement and in line with Article 158 of the Constitution, the letter ends.
Earlier in November Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has denied reports regarding the cessation of Gas supply across Sindh. A statement issued by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said that no gas load shedding was taking place across Sindh.
