Governor Punjab, it may be added here, had denotified Pervaiz Elahi in a late last night move, in what appeared to be attempt to forestall the dissolution of Punjab Assembly, as was announced by Chairman PTI Imran Khan.
Balighur Rahman alleged that “since CM has refrained from obtaining Vote of Confidence at the appointed day and time therefore he ceases to hold office. Orders issued this evening.”
In his 5-pages petition, Pervaiz Elahi took the ground that Governor Punjab didn’t write to him with instructions to get vote of confidence, rather, it was written to the Speaker Punjab Assembly. He said Governor wasn’t authorized to convene a new Punjab Assembly session since the old was already underway, and the Governor had no authority to ‘unconstitutionally’ denotify him.
Pervaiz Elahi in his petition، filed through Barrister Ali Zafar, prayed to the Lahore High Court to declare Governor’s notification of removing him from the post as null and void.
Soon after Governor’s move of denotifying him, Pervaiz Elahi had reacted strongly, saying “I reject the de-notification. I am the Chief Minister of Punjab and the cabinet will continue to function.”
