BEIJING: China’s state media on Saturday has reported that in an appeal with his Iranian counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the US to “not misuse of power” and seek solutions through negotiation and dialogue.
China responded one day after a U.S. airstrike ordered by President Trump which killed top Iranian leader Qassem Soleimani, head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite unit. Soleimani was killed at Baghdad’s international airport, which sparked outrage in Iran after his assassination.

Iran announced a three-day mourning period for Qassem Soleimani and warned that it would take ‘ severe revenge ‘ on those who killed him, making reference to the United States.
The Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday said, “Martyrdom has been the reward for his ongoing efforts in all these years,” after announcing three days of mourning for Qassem Soleimani.
According to media reports, tens of thousands of people took to Tehran’s streets to protest against American “crimes” after U.S. attacks killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad.
