LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Punjab has introduced a huge opportunity for diploma holders by reserving seats in the Bachelor of Science (BSc) program.
Punjab Medical Faculty diploma holders now have access to up to 5% of reserved seats in the BSc Allied Health Sciences program.
Furthermore, diploma holders are eligible to compete for admission on open merit seats.
This initiative was approved by the UHS Board of Studies during its 29th meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore.
Key stakeholders and representatives from medical institutions across Punjab were engaged in the discussion. The request to allocate seats to UHS was initiated by the Secretary of Punjab Medical Faculty, proposing to reserve seats in the BSc program for two-year diploma holders in eight different disciplines.
Diploma holders from the Punjab Medical Faculty now have pathways to admission in various BSc programs, including Medical Technology, Emergency and Intensive Care, Medical Laboratory Technology, Operation Theater Technology, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Cardiac Perfusion.
This decision opens up avenues for skilled technicians to further their qualifications, according to VC UHS.
Additionally, the annual academic calendar for BSc Allied Health Programs has been finalized, with classes commencing from March 1st and concluding by November 30th. Summer vacations are scheduled from July 22nd to August 14th, with end-of-semester exams beginning on December 2nd, 2024.
According to VC Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, nine programs have been transitioned to the semester system, with plans to shift the remaining six programs next year.
