Following a productive meeting with President Donald Trump, a new bipartisan Russia sanctions bill has been greenlit, raising the prospect of significant economic measures against countries purchasing Russian oil.

The legislation, developed over months with Senator Blumenthal and other lawmakers, is designed to punish nations that continue buying “cheap Russian oil” that fuels President Vladimir Putin’s war efforts in Ukraine.

The bill specifically aims to give the U.S. administration leverage over major global buyers of Russian energy, including China, India, and Brazil. If passed, it could impose heavy tariffs or restrictions on imports from countries that fail to reduce their reliance on Russian oil.

Senators behind the legislation argue that the move is timely, as Ukraine is reportedly making concessions for peace, while Russia continues its attacks on civilians. “This bill will allow President Trump to hold accountable those countries enabling Putin’s war machine,” a Senate spokesperson said.

After a very productive meeting today with President Trump on a variety of issues, he greenlit the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that I have been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others.

This will be well-timed, as Ukraine is making concessions for peace…

India, one of the largest importers of Russian crude, could face substantial economic pressure under the proposed sanctions, potentially leading to increased costs for oil imports and disruption in trade relations.

Lawmakers hope for a strong bipartisan vote as early as next week, signaling that U.S. policy on energy and sanctions may soon have global economic repercussions.
