LONDON: Several rail services in southern England have been disrupted after bedbugs were reportedly found on trains, prompting concerns over hygiene and the possible spread of the infestation across the network.
According to a report by The Telegraph, several trains operated by Southeastern have been removed from service after the presence of bedbugs was confirmed inside carriages.
The problem has reportedly affected the West Marina train depot near Hastings in East Sussex. There have also been reports of bedbugs being found on trains operating on Southeastern’s High Speed 1 (HS1) route, raising concerns that the infestation could spread further across the network.
The situation escalated after train drivers reportedly refused to work on or board affected carriages. The drivers have criticised the management and operators, alleging that the hygiene issue has not been given adequate attention.
The affected services have been taken out of operation as efforts are made to address the infestation and prevent the problem from spreading to other parts of the rail network.
