The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allied partners have achieved a landslide victory, securing a two-thirds majority in the national assembly.

According to unofficial results for 299 seats, the BNP-led alliance has captured 209 seats.

BNP is led by Tarique Rahman, son of Khaleda Zia and the alliance’s candidate for Prime Minister; the BNP alone has won 191 seats.

Tarique Rahman successfully secured victories in both his constituencies in Dhaka and Bogra.

Jamaat-e-Islami has emerged as the second-largest party with 34 seats. Meanwhile, the Gen-Z-led National Citizen Party, which fielded 30 candidates, managed to secure 5 seats.

Constitutional Referendum & Postal Voting
In addition to the general election, a referendum on constitutional reforms saw overwhelming support, with 73% of voters casting their ballots in favor of the changes.

The election also saw a significant digital footprint through the Postal Votes App. Out of over 1.5 million registered postal voters, a total of 1,143,845 votes were received.

This included

495,551 votes from overseas Bangladeshis.

648,294 votes from within the country.

Statements from Leadership
Despite the massive victory, the BNP leadership has maintained a sober tone. The party has instructed its workers to refrain from celebratory rallies and instead focus on offering prayers for the country’s betterment.

“I will govern the country alongside those with whom I stood during the struggle,” stated Tarique Rahman, emphasizing a collaborative approach to the new administration.

On the other hand, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami has directed his party workers to remain “vigilant and steadfast” as the official transition of power begins.
