Iran on Tuesday attacked a petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail industrial city, located in the Eastern province.
Jubail is home to one of the world’s largest industrial cities, producing steel, gasoline, petrochemicals, lubricating oil, and chemical fertilizers. It contributes roughly 11.5% of Saudi Arabia’s national GDP and 85% of its non-oil exports.
Jubail Industrial City
Jubail is one of the world’s largest industrial zones and a central pillar of Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical economy. It is home to a massive concentration of heavy industry, including more than 25 primary industrial companies that produce approximately 7% of global petrochemical production.

Saudi Basic Industries Corp operates a vast network of affiliates, including Petrokemya, Kemya, Sadaf, and Sharq. These plants produce essential chemicals like ethylene, polyethylene, and ethylene glycol.
Potential impact on Saudi economy
Iran’s reported strike on the industrial hub of Jubail Industrial City has sparked fears of economic disruption. The attack, which triggered fires at key facilities, could affect production, exports, investor confidence, supply chains, and global energy markets if damage proves extensive.
