ISLAMABAD: Arshad Sharif’s family on Friday rejected PIMS Director Dr Khalid Masud’s claims, saying they asked Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) thrice for autopsy report.
Earlier, Director PIMS Dr Khalid Masud claimed in a talkshow that Arshad Shari’s family never contacted him or the hospital for the journalist’s post-mortem report, adding that if they had contacted, he would have provided them the report.
The family contacted PIMs twice on November 1 and November 3, with the second request being a letter sent to Dr. Khalid Masud. This information came to light after Masud’s remark on a prime time talk show.
Masud had noted on the letter that the family should request a police death certificate as well as a court-ordered post-mortem report.
Despite this, Masud not only misrepresented his knowledge of the family’s attempts to obtain Arshad Sharif’s post-mortem report on live television.
After the interview was aired, Arshad Sharif’s family again contacted Masud, upon which he again refused their request. As the family reminded him of yesterday’s interview, he said that he will take back his statement.
It is important to note that although the family has still not received the post-mortem report, a private TV channel’s anchor this week saw graphic images of the martyr’s body and reported that Sharif had been tortured for hours before being killed.
