KARACHI: The Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) has recovered over 7 km of land by removing encroachments from the stormwater drain in the Mehmoodabad area of the metropolis on Monday.
A large of KMC teams have arrived on the location along with a heavy contingent of police and Rangers who have cordoned off the area to avoid any untoward incident in the early morning. Police have been deployed outside every street in the locality and residents have been instructed to stay indoors.
The extended and encroached areas and walls of houses and shops were either cleared away or demolished by the anti-encroachment drive. The KMC authorities underscored they will continue the operation for four days straight in collaboration with Karachi Municipal Corporation and other relevant offices.
Sources informed that Sindh Assembly MPA Saeed Ghani had given the directives to widen the stormwater drain by demolishing 20 houses. However, only one encroached road is being demolished at the moment.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah chaired a Karachi Coordination Committee session to contemplate development projects and drainage infrastructure of the metropolis.
The session deliberated over various nullahs across Karachi wherein the CM said they have asked NED University to study and survey all the important lines for remodeling.
