Today is an important day in the history of Pakistan as the National Assembly is going to vote on the no-confidence motion against the 22nd elected Prime Minister in the House.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered millions of people to gather in Islamabad on voting day, while PTI regional leaders have also instructed workers to leave their homes and reach the federal capital.
The no-confidence motion is a constitutional procedure. If the House considers that the Prime Minister has failed to perform his duties properly, then it chooses to replace the chief executive of the country through a no-confidence motion. Earlier, Benazir Bhutto and Shaukat Tareen had faced no-confidence motions as well.
As far as Imran Khan is concerned, if the movement succeeds, he will be the first prime minister to step down through a vote of no confidence. Imran Khan has taken a concerning step by sending a message to the people to leave their homes on Sunday during voting on the no-confidence motion.
Pakistan is currently facing major challenges at home and abroad and in such circumstances, if non-state actors commit any mischief in any part of the country, then even a small spark in the current situation could be a prelude to a major catastrophe.
It is a fact that none of the 21 prime ministers before Imran Khan in the history of Pakistan have completed the five-year term. However, the country has been running a democratic system for the last few years but the system can be wrapped up in the current situation which will not be acceptable to any political party.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has always reiterated that if he makes plans for the future, he should be prepared for the mistrust that is taking place today and his supporters should also be mentally prepared for any situation. Accepting defeat or victory is the mark of a good player.
Imran Khan is requested to accept defeat or victory with an open heart. If the result is unfavorable he must prepare for a second inning and return to the field with full force as is the true spirit of democracy for if anarchy spreads in the country difficult times shall be ahead for all political parties.
