KARACHI: City wardens, working under the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), have been deprived of their salaries for the past two months due to the sheer negligence of high officials in financial matters.
According to details, the salaries of all the departments, under the Municipal Corporation, have been released except the City Warden’s Department. The incompetence of KMC’s Finance Department has caused great distress to the city warden.
Earlier in 2020, it was revealed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is facing a deficit of Rs7 billion, making it difficult to pay salaries for employees and pensions.
The KMC owes Rs 3.5 billion including salaries, pensions and other dues of retired employees. Almost 5,600 retired employees and those who died on duty are still deprived of their legal obligations. Hundreds of development contractors across the city have not been paid their dues.
The monthly salary of these city wardens is between Rs 30,000 and Rs 42,000 according to the rankings. However, due to serious mismanagement of finance department, the salaries have not been paid yet.
City Wardens have appealed to Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Local Government Secretary and Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed to take immediate steps in this regard.
