Our father and grandfather were religious scholars. Not only this, but uncle and even father-in-law are religious scholars and there are ten times more scholars in our family than there are in eight or ten districts. Over the generations, we have received two very great benefits from Islamic studies in this regard.
One is that it is ingrained in us that we are not holy beings. Second, bigotry is considered a religious offense in our family. Also, one of the great favors and favors of Allah is that we are not associated with the donation industry, but earn our livelihood by working, so there was never a need to describe the virtues of the scholars. It is the blessing of this whole background that the tweet of Shaikhul Islam Mufti Taqi Usmani Sahib did not have the same effect on us that the nominated Army Chief General Asim Munir being a Hafiz of Quran is a matter that should be complacent.
General Asim has not been appointed as Taraweeh imam or memorization class teacher but as the next army chief. So we should not look at his memorization, but actions in the coming time should be in front of us. Regarding the measures, our first desire is that General Asim should not turn out like the former army chief on whose martyrdom Mufti Taqi Sahib has written a long eulogy.
Yes! I’m talking about General Zia-ul-Haq, whose devotion the non-political scholars were victims of to such an extent that in Zia’s speeches, the words like Insha’Allah, Masha’Allah and Subhan’Allah were regularly recited.
Regarding General Asim Munir, we secondly expect him not to interfere in politics as we had from General Bajwa and his predecessors, but it was not fulfilled. Although the PML-N’s position seems to be more principled, the senior most were promoted. But people having knowledge know very well that General Asim Munir became a priority because he was a victim of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s rebuke after he presented evidence of “covered corruption” of Khan Sahib’s house.
The question is that when General Asim Munir as DGISI informed Khan Sahib about the condition of his house, was it a political interference? It was definitely not. Because the DGISI is accountable to the Prime Minister and its responsibilities include informing the Prime Minister of the behind-the-scenes activities against the state and the government. So General Asim had done his duty then. Now after becoming the army chief, if he takes up the same case again, it will be an interference in politics.
Working against corruption is the responsibility of government and NAB. The Army Chief is not the guardian of the government to advise the Prime Minister on good behavior. There is no ombudsman to do dramas like Iqama and Panama to hold the opposition accountable.
Whether PTI chief Imran Khan goes on a long march, sit-ins, rallies, processions or any right or wrong political activity, it is the government’s job to deal with it, the army has nothing to do with it.
In recent times, there have been a lot of voices from the patwar house to clean up the own mess. Even if this is discussed with General Asim Munir, his answer should be clear and blunt that first of all, the one who spread the filth is no more. Now you know and Imran Khan knows. And if you still want to clean up the mess with us, then take authority under Article 245 of the Constitution. As if to clean up the mess, instead of a behind-the-scenes “Vigo doctrine”, a direct constitutional path should be taken.
The Shahbaz government has been giving the reason for not taking any action against Imran Khan for the last eight months and Khan still has support from within. Was it just a pretense or the fact that the pool would open now? If still no action is taken, it will mean nothing but that the current government is a coward and incompetent. It is not even capable of dealing with a person who has crossed all limits of unconstitutionality and anti-nationalism.
Now the excuse that Khan has support from within will no longer work. Because General Asim Munir will make major changes in the army within a few days of assuming command on November 29.
Although it is not possible to believe the statement of the outgoing army chief, but since the DGISI and DGISPR have also said that the army has now repented of the sin of interfering in politics and the same is being expected to be heard from the nominated COAS after assuming charge of his office.
If he also says the same, then it will be necessary for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to permanently ban the likes of Pervez Rashid, Abid Sher Ali and Talal Chaudhry. Because it is these three who have been creating problems for the government in the past.
