MUZAFFARABAD: The last session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly was convened under the chair of outgoing speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir on Tuesday, during which the new speaker, deputy speaker and 49 newly elected members took oath of their respective offices.
Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir administered the oath to the newly appointed members after notification of their election was read out by the Assembly secretary, Chaudhry Basharat Hussain.
Three newly elected lawmakers were not present to take the oath owing to different reasons.
After taking oath, the speaker adjourned the session till 2pm for the filing of nomination papers for the election of Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker in which PTI candidate Anwarul Haq won the election for speaker with 32 votes, whereas PTI candidate Chaudhry Riaz Gujar won the election for deputy speaker, also with 32 votes after winning both took oath of office, however the choice of PM Imran Khan for AJK PM ‘will be accepted by all’
Meanwhile, PM hopeful Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, from the PTI, said that the speaker and deputy speaker election was held as per democratic traditions. “The choice for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir prime minister is expected to be made by Prime Minister Imran Khan tomorrow,” he estimated.
