ISLAMABAD: The nation recorded 3,752 cases of the novel coronavirus as Monday, as the positivity ratio surges above seven percent, and the situation gets out of control amid the fourth wave.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 3,752 cases and 32 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,008,446 while the death toll stands at 23,048.
The positivity ratio has surged and was recorded at 7.52%. There are 2,677 people in critical condition including 104 new patients in the previous day. Overall 927,599 people have recovered from the virus, including 1,641 in the past day.
There were 49,947 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases. The number of active cases in the country has also increased to 57,799 amid the recent surge in cases.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases so far. The province has recorded 367,092 cases and 5,833 deaths while the number of active cases has surged to 37,674.
Punjab has recorded 353,238 cases and 10,944 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has reached 11,105. Islamabad has recorded 85,780 cases and 793 deaths while there are 2,359 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 141,925 and 4,420 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 29,571 cases and 325 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 7,747 cases and 123 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 23,093 cases and 610 deaths.
A day earlier, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar announced that Pakistan has successfully inoculated 25 million people against the novel coronavirus.
Taking to Twitter, the minister announced that aside from inoculating 25 million people, the government is employing measures to vaccinate more people in the coming month.
He said that further acceleration is being planned for August. He added by end of August, all major cities have a target to have at least 40% of the eligible population vaccinated.
