SWAT: An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 jolted Mingora city in the Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (K-P) today (Sunday), according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre.
Data available on the Centre’s website showed that the earthquake hit with a depth of 90km shaking the third largest city in K-P and its environments. The epicentre of the earthquake was reported to be below the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Though it sent a wave of fear among people who came out of their houses and business centres, no loss to property or casualty has been reported so far from any area.
Earlier on June 17, several parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, were jolted by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake, with no life losses reported so far.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck 25km to the southeast of Mangora (also known as Mingora) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district at 7:19pm. The depth was recorded at 20km.
Reports have started to emerge that the tremors were also felt in Muzaffarabad city and its surrounding areas, Swat, Balakot and Abbottabad. Several citizens took to Twitter to share their concerns, questioning whether others had felt the tremors too.
