ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday visited a remodelled panagah (shelter home) in Tarlai area of Islamabad.
Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar, MD Baitf-ul-Mal Aon Abbas and Focal Person on Panagahs Naseem-ur-Rehman briefed the prime minister about the facilities being provided in the sheleter him.
The prime minister reviewed the facilities and infrastructure of the Panagah and interacted with the people there. This is the first prototype shelter home that has been overhauled in less than a month with improved infrastructure, catering and living standards to serve daily wage earners and labourers.
Imran Khan had given directions last month to transform all Panagahs in the federal capital into Model ones. The shelter home in Tarlai is the first facility which has started providing better services to daily waged labourers in less than a month in terms of better infrastructure, catering and accommodation.
In the next three months, all five shelter homes in the federal capital will be remodelled. In the next phase, all shelter homes across the country will gradually be remodelled.
“The poor don’t have voice and they will never object. This is our duty to service them with quality and dignity,” the prime minister said while addressing the workers being served there.
SAPM Dr Sania Nishtar briefed the prime minister about the remodelled administrative structure and improved service standards at the shelter home.
She added the living standards have been restructured with enhanced facilitied for food catering and living, security protocols, standardised capacity, eligibility criteria, effective monitoring, regulated donations and financial details.
“The prioritized service delivery standards will not only comfort labourers from remote areas with best boarding and lodging and meal services gratis, but will also enable them to save for families,” she said.
Earlier on August 9, the prime minister had approved Panagah Strategy to expand the scope of shelter homes to facilitate laborers and daily wagers who need shelter and provide more facilities countrywide.
