KARACHI: Police officials have ordered action against a policeman who lured a young man from Punjab to Karachi on pretext or gaining employment and then arresting him under bogus cases.
DSP Nazimabad sub-division Pervaiz Bangash has been appointed an investigation officer to take action against Station House Officer (SHO) Rizvia Police Station Muzzaffar Siddiqui.
According to details, a flour grinder owner Shahid in Nazimabad accused his employee of theft. While the actual criminal was not arrested, the SHO with help from a woman, attempted to lure the worker’s cousin from Punjab to Karachi, promising to give him employment as a driver.
When the worker’s cousin Adnan Jatoi arrived, he was picked up from Golimar and kept in an unknown place for three days and tortured. When the family complained, the SHO said he was arrested under a robbery case.
Adnan’s family contacted the Investigation Department who were unaware of the arrest and cases lodged. On July 13, it was confirmed that Adnan was arrested for possessing 135-grams of drugs.
SSP Central Arif Aslam Rao took notice and instructed DSP Nazimabad to investigate the matter. The statements of Adnan’s family have been recorded while the flour-grinder has refused to give any statement and rebuffed allegations of the robbery.
Adnan’s family said a fake case has been lodged against him and he has no past criminal record and was being framed. They demanded action against the unknown woman and the SHO and urged IGP Sindh, IGP Karachi ad higher-ranking police officers to provide justice.
