KARACHI: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned the audience in Ramzan transmissions due to the coronavirus outbreak.
A notification issued by the PEMRA stated that the audiences that gather during Ramzan transmissions throughout the month will not be allowed in the studio.
The notification reads, “There should be no display of gifts including bikes, cars, electronics, and other items.” It further reads, “There should be a distance between hosts if more than one host is present on the set.”
The statement further reads, “Any violation obtained shall involve legal action, as per the directives of the federal government.” The decision has been taken to maintain the social distancing measures to curb the COVID-19 from spreading.
Furthermore, the staff involved in telecasting the shows have been instructed to wear safety kits and regularly disinfect their equipment. Furthermore, arrangements for handwashing and sanitising must be made at entrances and inside studios.
Meanwhile, PEMRA has also directed channels not to use language that is against any religion or belief and incites hatred among people.
Last month, the PEMRA issued advice to the television channels, asking for promotion of social distancing and halting from holding morning shows, inviting live audiences with a view to checking coronavirus spread.
The authority also advised telecasting programmes of public interest such as movies, popular dramas, award shows in order to motivate people to stay at home.
