ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally challenged the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before the Peshawar High Court.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has urged the high court to hear the petition on an urgent basis, expressing hope that the province’s elected government would be restored and the supremacy of the Constitution upheld.
Criticising the government’s actions, Barrister Gohar said the party rejected all notifications issued in connection with the move. He reaffirmed that PTI would continue its legal and constitutional struggle against what it considers an unconstitutional step.
Barrister Gohar Criticises Removal of Elected Government
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, the PTI chairman strongly criticised the imposition of governor’s rule in the province, alleging that it had led to the removal of an elected democratic government.
He described the move as an attack on democracy and questioned the justification for the government’s actions.
PTI Chief Calls for Stronger Action Against Terrorism
Addressing national security and terrorism during his speech in the National Assembly, Barrister Gohar alleged that terrorism was being used as a pretext for the government’s actions.
He stressed that terrorism must be eliminated across the country and that no terrorist group should be allowed to find safe haven anywhere in Pakistan.
The PTI chairman also alleged that India was behind the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), describing the relationship between the two as closely linked.
Barrister Gohar further claimed that the government’s decisions had disrupted the functioning of the country’s overall system.
PTI has maintained that it will continue to pursue legal and constitutional remedies against the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
