KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Asad Raza has decided to conduct a formal inquiry into the viral video of a fight between women in a residential building in Defence’s Chhota Bukhari area, days after new CCTV footage raised serious questions over police conduct.
According to Karachi Police DIG South, SSP Investigation South Tohidur Rehman will lead the inquiry, which will thoroughly examine the reasons for registering the case and the facts surrounding the incident.
Case Status and Alleged Police Involvement
Investigating police said the challan of the case has not yet been submitted, while provisions related to snatching and theft have been dropped from the FIR.
Officials stated that if any bias is revealed in the registration of the case, action will be taken against the persons involved and the relevant officials.
According to sources, the plainclothes officer seen breaking the CCTV camera with a government weapon in the earlier footage is allegedly a Korangi police officer.
Police officials confirmed that all personnel seen in the footage, including those spotted dragging a youth and using an official vehicle, will be questioned during the inquiry.
Meanwhile, another video of the injured woman, Noor-ul-Ain, has surfaced, showing her in a distressed and injured condition. She stated that blood was coming from her nose and mouth, her hair was torn off and her eye was injured.
Defence women’s brawl background:
The incident, which took place nine days ago in a flat located in Khayaban-e-Bukhari Commercial Area, reportedly stemmed from a parking dispute between two families. The victims of the assault are siblings.
Earlier CCTV footage that went viral showed two women engaged in a heated argument that turned into physical torture, with police personnel present at the scene.
The footage also showed additional personnel arriving and breaking the CCTV camera installed outside the flat, prompting questions about who called the police and whose official vehicle was present.
